Valve Type Installation Procedures
Closed Center Load Sense Power Beyond Installation
Use this valve installation when the vehicle has a closed center non reacting Orbitrol with a Load Sense line and a power
beyond system available. Power beyond is typically only found on tractors and is used for powering hydraulically driven
implements. The power beyond system must have pressure, tank and LS ports available. The closed center Orbitrol may get its
oil supply from a variable displacement flow and pressure compensated pump or a fixed displacement gear pump with a LS
steering priority valve. This installation is preferred and can be simpler to install when the tractor has a power beyond system
available.
The AutoFarm pressure, tank and LS hoses are connected to the tractor power beyond system which is independent of the
tractor steering system. A LS relief valve inside the AutoFarm valve limits the maximum LS pressure and therefore limits the
maximum pump pressure for AutoSteering. A second LS hose is teed into the Orbitrol’s LS hose for detecting a pressure spike
when the driver turns the steering wheel. The pressure transducer signal is used to kick-out AutoSteer when the driver turns the
steering wheel. The AutoFarm right and left steering hoses are teed into the machine’s steering lines and sends oil directly to
the steering cylinders. The non reactive Orbitrol keeps the steering wheel stationary while AutoSteering.
Note: Do not use this installation with the following vehicle types:
• Vehicles with reactive (self centering) steering system.
• Very large vehicles that may require a higher oil flow and a larger AutoSteer valve.
• Vehicles with an Open Center steering system.
• Pressure compensated vehicles that do not have a LS hose on the Orbitrol.
• Vehicles that do not have power beyond available.
• Vehicles that use separate oil reservoirs for steering and power beyond.
Valve Configuration
The AutoFarm valve has two internal plugs and orifices that must be configured to adjust the valve Load Sense circuit for
different types of installations. For this Power Beyond installation you must replace a blind plug with an orifice and also install
a blind plug as specified in the table below.
Tab le 3-5 provides the recommended plug configuration also for reference and
troubleshooting purposes.
Table 3-5 AutoSteer Valve Plug and Orifice Configuration
Note: The 0.022” orifice recommended for position 13A is only required on tractors that do not have an internal LS
bleed-down orifice on their power beyond system. Always install an orifice in position 13A on tractors that do not have a
LS bleed-down. Failure to install this orifice will result in the power beyond pump remaining stroked up to a high
pressure when AutoSteer is not turning the wheels. The Power Beyond pump pressure should drop immediately when the
valve is not turning the wheels.
