5.5 TROUBLESHOOTING
This section is intended to help you solve basic machine performance problems.
For serious maintenance or if you have questions on the following procedures,
contact CLIMAX.
TABLE 5-4. TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem Remedy
AFU does not
advance the bar
• Fully engage the feed shaft pin in the bushing slot.
• Check that the pin has not sheared.
• Clean the leadscrew.
• Check that the feed rate is not too low.
• Check that the AFU is clamped tightly to the bar.
• Check that none of the clamp collars, except those on the AFU, are over tightened.
• Check that the stop arm has not depressed one of the stop feed screw assemblies.
Tool chatter
• Sharpen the tool bit.
• Decrease the nose radius on the tool bit.
• Increase the feed rate.
• Increase or decrease the drive motor speed.
• Change the depth of cut.
• Add additional support arms or place the existing support arms closer to the workpiece.
Machine is
unstable
Tighten all clamps and hardware. Provide additional support.
RDU will not
rotate
• Check that the HPU is turned on.
• Check that the HPU pump motor is rotating as indicated by the arrow on the pump body
(see Section 3.5.1 on page 43).
• Check the oil level in the HPU.
• Check that the speed control is at maximum flow.
• Check the hydraulic hose connections.
• On electric powered units, check electrical connections and circuit breakers (see Section
3.5.3 on page 46).
• Check that the control box on electric motors is plugged into the motor and turned on.
Feed is in
wrong direction
Check the feed shaft position on the AFU (see Section 3.4 on page 40).
HPU fails to
deliver fluid
• Check the fluid level and add more if necessary.
• Check that the pump motor is turning in the correct direction (see Section 3.5.1 on
page 43).
• Check hydraulic connections for obstructions or leaks.
HPU motor does
not run
• Check that the power unit and electrical supply are compatible.
• Check that the unit is plugged in.
• Check for faulty wiring.
• Check the reset switch in the electrical box.
• Check the fuses in the electrical box.
Servo motor
does not stop
when turned to
zero
See Appendix D on page 141.
