5.5 Communication from Electronic Monitoring System to ECB
5.5.1 Voluntary Withdrawal Signal
Should the wearer of the breathing apparatus make a decision to withdraw from an incident,
a signal can be transmitted to the ECB by pressing and holding the RH button of the electronic
monitoring system until the withdrawal request icon is displayed. On observing the radio icon,
the wearer should release the RH button.
ECB – The voluntary withdrawal icon of the associated channel flashes (amber) and
an intermittent alarm sounds indicating that the signal has been received from the
electronic monitoring system.
ECO – Having been alerted, identifies the wearer and confirms the alarm by pressing the
button of the appropriate channel. The alarm stops, the voluntary withdrawal icon stops
flashing and illuminates continuously indicating that the signal has been received and
acknowledged.
Electronic monitoring system – On acknowledgement from the ECO the electronic
monitoring system emits a short audible alarm, during which time the withdrawal request
icon is displayed. When the alarm stops, the electronic monitoring system display returns
to the normal operating screen.
5.5.2 Automatic Distress Signal Unit (ADSU) – Motion Sensor
Refer also to the Instructions for Use for the electronic monitoring system.
A motion sensor is incorporated in the monitoring device. If movement is not detected for a
period of time, the instrument emits an audible pre-alarm to the wearer (not to the ECB). This
alarm is automatically cancelled if movement is detected within a period of time.
If no movement is detected during the pre-alarm then a higher level main alarm is activated.
The screen of the electronic monitoring system displays the automatic distress alarm icon and
a signal is transmitted to the ECB.
ECB – The motion alarm icon of the associated channel flashes (red) and an
intermittent alarm sounds indicating that the signal has been received from the
Bodyguard
®
.
ECO – Having been alerted, identifies the wearer and confirms the alarm by pressing the
button of the appropriate channel. The alarm stops, the motion alarm icon stops flashing
and illuminates continuously indicating that the signal has been received and acknowledged.
NOTICE
The sequence can be repeated as many times as required by the wearer.
NOTICE
Recovery procedures should be in line with established guidelines and control
procedures.
