Manual Operation of ECB
Refer to the appropriate Working Duration table to establish the remaining time (in
minutes) available to the wearer. This can be interpreted and recorded as either:
A time elapsed to whistle activation.
or
Added to the time shown on the ECB clock to estimate a Time of Whistle (TOW).
Using a suitable waterproof marker, record the time to whistle activation or the TOW in the
remarks panel of the channel slot in the ECB.
The wearer is now released for entry to the risk area.
D.2 After Use
All wearers of breathing apparatus that are logged on to an ECB must return to the Entry Control Point (ECP) to ensure that the
log-off procedures are followed. The procedures must be carried out under the supervision and control of the Entry Control Officer
(ECO).
D.2.1 Log Off Procedure
The breathing apparatus is to be shut down by the wearer as described in the After Use section of the Instructions for Use
supplied with the equipment (remove mask, close cylinder valve and fully vent the system).
At the ECP the ECO identifies the wearer then removes the tally from the associated channel. The ECO records an exit
dosimeter reading if necessary and hands the tally to the wearer. On removing the tally, the channel screen will switch off.
Repeat the procedure for all logged-on units. When all tallies have been removed the ECB will return to sleep mode.
