5.5.3 Distress Signal Unit (DSU) Manual Alarm – Panic Button
Should the wearer of the breathing apparatus become distressed or require assistance then
pressing the panic button activates the main audible alarm of the electronic monitoring system.
The screen of the electronic monitoring system displays the manual distress alarm icon and a
signal is transmitted to the ECB.
ECB – The distress signal icon of the associated channel flashes (red) and an
intermittent alarm sounds indicating that the signal has been received from the
Bodyguard
®
.
ECO – Having been alerted, identifies the wearer and confirms the alarm by pressing the
button of the appropriate channel. The alarm stops, the distress signal icon stops flashing
and illuminates continuously indicating that the signal has been received and acknowledged.
Electronic monitoring system – The electronic monitoring system remains in main alarm
condition until cancelled by the wearer.
5.5.4 Loss of Radio Contact (Entry Control Board – Electronic Monitoring System)
If there is a loss of radio contact between the ECB and the electronic monitoring system then the on-line radio icon of the
affected channel of the ECB flashes (green). The electronic monitoring system indicates the communication loss to the wearer
as detailed in Section A.4.4 on Page 31 (Bodyguard
®
II), Section B.2.4 on Page 33 (Bodyguard
®
7000) or the instructions for use
(Connect ECU).
During loss of radio contact the following should be noted:
The on-line radio icon of the affected channel of the ECB flashes.
The associated channel screen will not be updated using data transmitted from the electronic monitoring system. Data will
change against real time as follows:
TTW – If the ECB default is Time to Whistle, the channel screen time will count down at one-minute intervals from the time
of loss of radio contact.
TOW – If the ECB default is Time of Whistle the channel screen time will remain at the time shown at the point of loss of
radio contact.
When contact is re-established, the on-line radio icon of the ECB illuminates continuously and the electronic monitoring system
display returns to the normal operating mode. The associated channel screen data are updated at the next data signal
transmission from the electronic monitoring system.
5.6 After Use
All wearers of breathing apparatus that are logged on to an ECB must return to the Entry Control Point (ECP) to ensure that the
log-off procedures are followed. The procedures must be carried out under the supervision and control of the Entry Control Officer
(ECO).
5.6.1 Log Off Procedure
The breathing apparatus is to be shut down by the wearer as described in the After Use section of the Instructions for Use
supplied with the equipment (remove mask, close cylinder valve and fully vent the system). The display of the electronic
monitoring system will indicate zero pressure and zero Time to Whistle. The ECB will emit two short audible beeps and the
associated channel screen of the ECB will flash the Time of Whistle data that will be the same as the time shown on the ECB
clock.
NOTICE
Recovery procedures should be in line with established guidelines and control
procedures.
NOTICE
In case of long communication loss, recovery procedures should be in line with established guidelines and control
procedures.
