Propagation
Possible locations for Repeaters are inside the entrance of a building, at the top of basement stairs, the bottom of stairs, at the
entrance to, or at a sharp corner in a corridor or tunnel, etc. In reality, as illustrated, the actual spread of the radio signal may mean
that the optimum position may be at some point further down the stairs, or in the case of a tunnel, further into the entrance.
E.2.2 Leaky Feeder – Bodyguard® electronic monitoring systems only
The Dräger PSS

Telemetry Leaky Feeder is a portable cable reel with a length of coaxial cable. As a radio signal is
transmitted along the cable it is transmitted through the shield of the cable for approximately a 30 metre radius along its length.
The Leaky Feeder is also able to receive a transmitted radio signal through the shield and back along the cable. The product is
used where Repeaters alone may not be capable of providing the necessary propagation coverage, such as inside buildings and
long deep twisting tunnels.
The cable reel is fitted with 100 metres of coaxial cable with associated BNC plug and jack connectors. The Leaky Feeder may
be connected to either the ECB or a Repeater unit. A maximum of two reels (total 200 metres) are allowed before fitting of either
an antenna, or second Repeater. An antenna must be fitted at the end of the final cable run. The Dräger Repeater and Leaky
Feeder system with associated antennas can cover a wired connection of 400 metres, plus the propagation distance from the
ECB to Repeater no. 1, and from the antenna of the last Leaky Feeder to the logged-on electronic monitoring system.
