DIZZINESS HANDICAP INVENTORY
The dizziness handicap inventory (DHI) is an optional 25-item questionnaire, which
was designed to measure the self-perceived disability or handicap caused by
symptoms of dizziness or imbalance. The individual questions are designed to
address the impact of the symptoms on the physical, emotional, and functional
aspects of daily activities, and there are three possible answers, "Yes," "sometimes,"
and "no," to each question. The maximum total score (indicating maximum handicap)
is 100. There are seven questions that comprise the physical subscale (maximum
score of 28) and nine questions each on the functional and emotional subscale
(maximum scores of 36). For ease of comparison the subscale scores are converted
to percentage scores. (SeeappendixDizzinessHandicapInventory)
