9.1 The Sorting Station Inline
According to VDI 2860, sorting is a sub-concept of the “change quantity” handling function. The conveyor is
equipped with branches for sorting the workpieces. Various deflectors are set, depending on the workpiece.
The workpieces must travel individually so as not to interfere with the switching operations of the
deflectors.
The sorting station sorts the workpieces according to material and color.
The function of the station is to:
• Sort workpieces according to their characteristics
• Feed the workpieces to the next station
