Disinfecting ECG Cables
Use the following procedure to disinfect the cables and leadwires:
1. Remove the cables and leadwires from the device before disin-
fecting.
2. Wipe them with a cloth lightly moistened with an appropriate dis-
infectant.
Use the following solutions, as recommended in APIC Guidelines
for Selection and Use of Disinfectants (1996):
Sodium hypochlorite (5.2% household bleach) minimum
1:500 dilution (minimum 100 ppm free chlorine) and maxi-
mum 1:10 dilution.
Any sodium hypochlorite wipe product that meets the previ-
ous guidelines.
3. Dry the cables with a clean cloth or paper towel.
Storing ECG Cables
Store cables and leadwires by hanging them vertically in a dry, well-venti-
lated area. Do NOT coil leadwires or cables around the device.
Cleaning the Battery Contacts
If the battery status indicates the battery’s capacity is too low despite in-
serting a new or fully charged battery, it is recommended that you clean
the battery contacts. Use a cloth moistened with a 70% alcohol solution.
Checking ECG Cable and Connectors
Check the ECG Cable and connectors every month by connecting to an
ECG simulator.
