1.5 Intended use and fields of application
1.5.1 Operating environment
The Mini-LAS 11-R is intended for use in occupational safety and health protection, dust monitoring and
also as a research device by universities and research institutions. It is intended for indoor use.
1.5.2 Information about direct/remote control
The Mini-LAS 11-R can be controlled both directly and remotely.
With its comprehensive interface configuration (Bluetooth, USB, LAN, RS232), it is flexible in regards to
data transmission and only limited by the maximum cable length or effective range of the wireless con-
nection.
1.5.3 Notes on starting/stopping measurements
A measurement starts after the device is powered up and has passed the self-test.
Measurement operation can be ended manually at any time by pressing the standby button. To obtain
complete measurement series, the measurement should always be terminated at the end of the meas-
uring interval by pressing the standby button or via the software.
1.5.4 Self-test of the Mini-LAS 11-R
Each time the device starts, it performs a self-test which provides information about the device status.
The 11-R also asks every time whether the integrated PTFE filter has been replaced.
1.5.5 Restrictions on use and fields of application
To maintain the Mini-LAS 11-R in functional condition, the technical data for the device summarised in
Section 7 must be observed. These restrictions apply both to the number of particles being measured
and the expected relative humidity at the planned measuring location. A coincidence error may occur if
the particle concentration is too high. At a particle concentration in excess of 2,000,000 particles per
litre, the sample air should be diluted with dry, particle-free air.
If the relative humidity is too high, there is a risk of condensation in the device which can lead to exten-
sive damage. On the other hand, the water droplets may condense on the particles and lead to wrong
results for them being detected bigger than they actually are.

sentative of GRIMM Aerosol Technik GmbH & Co. KG nearest you.
1.5.6 Ambient conditions
The Mini-LAS 11-R is designed for the ambient conditions of indoor measurements. With corresponding
accessories such as the isokinetic duct probe, the Mini-LAS 11-R can also be used in flow areas such
as air ducts.
