4 Measurements
4.1 Putting into operation
The measuring device can be operated as follows:
1) Standalone operation without a PC, with an SD memory card or USB stick, controlled using the
membrane keyboard
2) By RS232 communication using HyperTerminal control commands or GRIMM Windows 1178 soft-
ware with a connected PC
3) By USB communication using HyperTerminal control commands or GRIMM Windows 1178 soft-
ware with a connected PC
4) By Bluetooth communication using HyperTerminal control commands or GRIMM Windows 1178
software with a connected PC, tablet PC, laptop or smart phone with Bluetooth-capable terminal app
5) By LAN communication using HyperTerminal control commands or GRIMM Windows 1178 soft-
ware with a connected PC
Standalone operation without a PC is discussed in the following. Operation using HyperTerminal con-
trol commands is explained in Section 5.1 “Terminal software via RS-232 interface” and the sections
that follow. All information for the GRIMM Windows Software is found in Section 5.2.
Standalone operation
For properly putting the device into operation, follow the steps and information below.
Never operate the device without a PTFE filter! Only use the original GRIMM 47 mm
PTFE filter!
Check whether the gravimetry filter (PTFE filter) is
properly installed as shown in the illustration to the
right. For the gravimetric determination of the weight
of the dust particles accumulated on the filter, see the
information in Section 4.5 “Gravimetric control of the
dust mass”.
