Affinity® 4 Birthing Bed Instructions for Use (USR025 REV 13) 19
CAUTION:
Caution—Remove the battery if the bed will not be in service for extended periods of time. Failure to
do so could result in damage to the life of the battery, or damage to the bed. Contact the appropriate
maintenance personnel, and refer to the Affinity® 4 Birthing Bed Service Manual (195826).
BAT TE RY SLEEP
For Affinity® 4 Birthing Beds with serial number R298AAXXXX and higher, the battery sleep feature will
significantly reduce battery power consumption and extend battery life when the bed is not connected
to a wall power source.
To Activate
The battery sleep feature will engage as soon as the bed is unplugged from a wall power source or after
3 minutes and 42 seconds of inactivity while in Battery Backup operation.
To Deactivate
While the bed is not plugged in to a wall power source:
1. Press any caregiver motor function (see “Bed Up/Down (Hilow)” on page 10, “Foot Section” on page
11, or “Head Section” on page 12).
2. Press any nurse call control, if equipped.
3. Quickly press the trend-like position handle (see “Trend-Like Function” on page 20).
After the battery sleep function is canceled, the bed will operate normally in Battery Backup for 3
minutes and 42 seconds after the last control is pressed.
SIDERAILS
WARNING:
To help prevent injury and/or equipment damage, obey these
warnings:
Warning—Evaluate patients for entrapment risk in
accordance with facility protocol and/or healthcare provider
directives, and monitor patients appropriately.
Warning—Make sure the patient is clear of the siderails
when you raise or lower them.
Warning—When you raise or lower the siderail, stay clear of
pinch and contact points.
Warning—Make sure all siderails are fully latched when in the raised position. Failure to do
either of these could cause serious injury or death.
NOTE:
Siderails are intended to be a reminder to the patient of the unit's edges, not a patient-restraining
device. When appropriate, Hill-Rom recommends that medical persons determine the correct methods
necessary to make sure a patient remains safely in bed.
Siderails in the raised position are intended to make the patient aware of the proximity of the edge of
the mattress and to assist in the patient entry and exit.
