SIDERAIL CONTROLS
BUILT-IN SIDECOM® COMMUNICATION SYSTEM CONTROLS (OPTIONAL)
Every Affinity® 4 Birthing Bed with siderail controls is pre-wired to accommodate the SideCom®
Communication System now or in the future. The SideCom® Communication System enables
integration of the backlit nurse call, entertainment (radio and TV), and lighting in the siderails. The
optional Universal TV is also available.
BUILT-IN SIDERAIL CONTROLS
Patient and staff controls are embedded in the siderails on both sides of the bed.
The patient controls are always in full view of the patient, and the international graphic symbols provide
easy orientation. Patient head and foot section controls are embedded in the inside panel of the
siderails (on both sides of the bed) for the patient’s convenience. Powered operation allows the patient
to respond to her body signals and reduces her dependence on staff assistance for positioning, support,
and comfort. These controls include Head Up/Head Down and Foot Up/Foot Down.
Staff controls are embedded in the outside panel of both siderails. In addition to head and foot section
controls, the outside panel contains controls for the hilow operation.
CASTERS
Eight inch casters were available for the Affinity® 4 Birthing Bed (not available for Stow and Go® foot
section). Eight inch casters are no longer available.
CALF SUPPORT
The standard calf support is included with the Affinity® 4 Birthing Bed. Additional calf supports are
available as optional features and are identified in the Accessories section of this document (see
“Accessories” on page 29).
MATTRESSES
WARNING:
To help prevent injury and/or equipment damage, obey these warnings:
• Warning—Replace the mattress or cushions if the cover becomes torn or cut.
• Warning—Some safety features of the bed may not function or may not operate as intended
with mattresses that are not designed specifically for this bed. Check with the mattress
manufacturer to make sure that the safety features of the bed have been tested and verified to
operate correctly with the replacement mattress. Failure to do so could cause serious personal
injury or equipment damage.
NOTE:
Hill-Rom recommends the use of Hill-Rom® mattresses that have been designed and tested specifically
for the Affinity® 4 Birthing Bed. If you purchase a replacement mattress from Hill-Rom or another
manufacturer, make sure that the safety features of the bed have been tested and verified to operate
correctly with the replacement mattress. The replacement mattress should meet the applicable
regulations and technical standards to minimize the risk of injury to patients and caregivers.
