3. Routine Inspection before Every Shift
21
To check the level of brake fluid:
Caution: Improper handling of brake fluid may lead to respiratory irritation. In case of
contact with eyes or skin, clean the affected area with water. Refer to First Aid Measures
section in the material safety data sheet (MSDS) of the brake fluid. Seek immediate medical
attention if symptoms worsen.
1. Locate the brake fluid reservoir behind the steering column.
2. Verify that the level of brake fluid is between the min and max marks.
Warning: Use only DOT 4 brake fluid. Do not mix brake fluids. Failure to comply will
damage the brake system.
3. If the level of brake fluid is below the min mark, add DOT 4 brake fluid to the appropriate level.
4. Continue the routine inspection and go to the next routine procedure.
10. Checking front lift arm assembly
This routine procedure verifies that the tractor front lift assembly does not have any missing or loose
components.
To check the front lift arm assembly:
Danger: Any loose, damaged, or missed components in the front lift assembly can cause an
attachment to tip, roll off, or fall to the ground, creating a hazardous situation, which if not
avoided, will result in serious or fatal injuries, and damage to the tractor.
1. Inspect the left and right sides of the assembly for the following:
l All four pinch bolt (two per side) and two lift arm pins (one per side) are secured in their
positions.
l Both front lift hooks (one per side) are not loose and do not move side to side.
l Both lift hook wedges (one per side) are secured in their positions.
l Both roll pins (one per side) are present on the bent arms, and one end of each pin
protrudes 0.5 in. from the opening.
2. Move front lift arm assembly side to side to verify that the front stabilizer link, two upper and two
lower front lift cylinder bearings, and upper and lower oscillating cylinder bearings are not loose.
3. If you detect any excessive play in between either the front lift stabilizer, or front lift cylinder
bearings, or oscillating cylinder bearings and their pins, refer to Troubleshooting chapter.
Otherwise, continue the routine inspection and go to the next procedure.
11. Checking trailer coupling (?)
This routine procedure verifies that the tractor trailer coupling functions properly.
