Installing a PTO shaft
The PTO (power take-off) allows power from the engine to be transmitted to an attachment via a PTO
shaft. PTO shafts are unique for each attachment type and can be installed at the front or rear, if
equipped, of the tractor. This procedure provides general instructions on how to install a PTO shaft
regardless of an attachment.
Warning: Failure to comply with the procedure could result in serious injuries or damage to
equipment.
Before installing a PTO shaft, ensure the following:
1. Tractor is parked on level ground with no inclination.
2. Tractor is stationary:
a. Drive direction switch is in neutral.
b. Drive program switch is set to 0.
c. Parking brake is engaged.
3. Engine is off.
4. For enhanced protection, secure the tractor with wedges if wedges are available.
To install a PTO shaft:
1. Hold the PTO shaft in your hands with its collar end facing the PTO drive shaft of the tractor
(Picture).
2. Pull and hold back the collar of the PTO shaft, and slide the PTO shaft onto the tractor PTO drive
shaft.
3. Release the collar end and push the PTO shaft onto the tractor PTO drive shaft until it locks. You
will hear a click.
4. Push and pull the PTO shaft to make sure that it is fastened.
5. Hook the PTO guard chain to the tractor front or rear back depending on the attachment (Picture).
Engaging PTO
This procedure provides instructions on how to engage the PTO.
Warning: Failure to comply with the procedure could result in serious or fatal injuries, and
damage to equipment.
Before engaging the PTO:
1. Ensure that a PTO shaft and attachment have been properly installed.
