8. Attachments-Related Procedures
55
Warning: If an attachment is not installed properly, it may tip, roll off, or fall to the ground,
creating a hazardous situation, which if not avoided, could result in serious or fatal injuries.
To engage the PTO:
1. Bring the tractor to a complete stop:
a. Set the drive direction switch to neutral.
b. Set the drive program switch to 0.
c. Engage the parking brake. Follow Engaging/disengaging parking brake procedure.
2. Bring the engine to idle (?).
3. If the rear shaft is being engaged, turn the PTO speed selector lever on. If the front shaft is being
engaged, using the PTO speed selector rod (Picture), select the PTO shaft speed (540 rpm or
1000 rpm) as specified for the attachment installed.
Note: For 540 rpm, pull the rod completely out. For 1000 rpm, push the rod completely in.
4. Ensure that the engine is running below 950 rpm (how?).
Warning: Engaging PTO at engine speed higher than 950 rpm creates a tremendous shock
load on a PTO shaft. This improper use of PTO will cause massive damage to the tractor and
void your warranty.
Warning: Before turning the PTO switch on, make sure that there is nobody in the danger
area. Failure to comply could result in serious or fatal injuries.
5. Turn the PTO switch on. The PTO shaft will start rotating.
Warning: Exceeding the maximum engine rpm requirement for an attachment may cause
extreme damage to equipment and void your warranty.
Note: If the PTO is engaged but the engine is switched off, the PTO will switch off
automatically. To reactivate the PTO, restart the engine and turn the PTO switch on.
6. Turn the hand throttle counter-clockwise to increase engine speed to the appropriate rpm, as
specified for the attachment.
Note: While operating the PTO, you can view PTO speed by switching the ground/PTO
speed digital display from displaying ground speed to PTO speed. To do so, use the
ground/PTO speed digital display switch.
