the third party is required if HP will provide a single support point of contact that includes the third-party
storage. HP provides technical support for its products and cooperates with the third party's technical
support staff, as needed.
HP provides best-practices recommendations for connecting devices in the SAN (see
Best practices on page 417). These rules apply to configurations that include HP SAN storage products
and heterogeneous third-party SAN storage products:
Use zones to isolate HP storage ports from third-party storage ports.
Overlapping zones with multiple storage ports are not supported.
Third-party storage zones are governed by product-specific configuration guidelines (see the third-
party product documentation).
See Heterogeneous SAN storage system coexistence on page 232 for storage system
nl
coexistence support.
Maximums
This section describes general EVA limits. Specific solutions, such as high-availability clusters, or
applications, such as HP Continuous Access EVA (see
HP Continuous Access EVA SAN integration on page 254), impose additional limits on connectivity.
Solution requirements must be observed as specified by the solution configuration documentation.
Table 129 lists the maximum number of connections supported by EVA storage systems, and the
storage limits for each platform. The maximums are for access to a single EVA storage system with
redundant dual controllers. If the connection requirements for the number of servers in a particular
SAN exceed the maximum, deploy multiple storage systems in the SAN.
General maximums are as follows:
Maximum of 1,024 HBAs
Maximum number of LUNs per EVA6400/8400:
Without Continuous Access EVA:
2,047 with a maximum LUN size of 2 TB (no Large LUNs)
2,047 minus the number of Large LUN logical disks (greater than 2 TB)
With Continuous Access EVA:
2,047 minus the number of DR groups, with a maximum LUN size of 2 TB (no Large LUNs)
2,047 minus the number of DR groups and minus the number of Large LUN logical disks
(greater than 2 TB)
NOTE:
For Large LUNs, every 2 TB counts as one LUN. For example, a Large LUN of 8 TB would count
as 4 LUNs against the maximum of 2,047 LUNs per EVA.
Maximum of 1,023 LUNs per EVA4000/4100/4400/6000/6100/8000/8100 and
EVA3000/5000 (VCS 4x)
Maximum of 511 LUNs per EVA3000/5000 (VCS 3x)
Maximum of 256 hosts, clustered or standalone
A host can contain one or more HBAs.
Maximum of 256 LUN presentations per a single virtual disk
Maximum of 8,192 LUN presentations for all LUNs
