Belt Splicing System v.2.0
10-11
Belt tension too high 1. Clamp belt to conveyor frame near Clamping Fixture to eliminate pull on belt ends.
2. Adjust conveyor components to minimize tension.
Clamping Fixture not properly closing • Clear any debris between Grooved Decks.
• Clamping Fixture damaged. See Table of Equipment/Facility Problems on page 10-2.
Splice breaks when bent
Cut the faulty splice from the belt and repeat the splicing procedures with careful attention to the following items.
Wrong Cut Guide used Repeat belt end preparation using the blue S8026 Cut Guide for 26 mm pitch belt or red S8050
Cut Guide for 50 mm pitch belt.
Temperature or time set incorrectly • Adjust setpoint to recommended temperature.
• Melt belt ends for recommended time.
See Splice the Belt Ends on page 6-2.
Bet splice not cool enough • Move spliced belt as gently as possible as it cools.
• Do not bend splice for inspection until the belt has cooled at least five (5) minutes at normal
room temperature.
Clamping Fixture slammed shut for
cooling
Maintain control of the Crank Handle when closing the Clamping Fixture for splice cooling.
Allowing Grooved Decks to slam closed causes molten splash and possible misalignment.
Splice has visible bubbles or pits
Some pitting is expected in used belt ends, but must be minimal. Large pits or consecutive small pits indicate a faulty splice. Cut the faulty
splice from the belt and repeat the splicing procedures with careful attention to the following items.
Temperature or time too high • Adjust setpoint to recommended temperature.
• Melt belt ends for recommended time.
See Splice the Belt Ends on page 6-2.
