Checking the Battery Terminals
1 Park the vehicle on firm level ground and lower the
boom.
2 Apply the park brake and select neutral.
3 Stop the engine and remove the ignition key.
4 Disconnect each battery terminal in turn and
thoroughly clean the terminal and clamp.
5 Refit the battery terminals and fully tighten.
6 Protect the terminals and clamps with petroleum jelly
to prevent corrosion.
Checking the Electrolyte Level
Maintenance free batteries used in normal temperate
climate applications should not need topping up. However,
in certain conditions (such as prolonged operation at
tropical temperatures or if the alternator overcharges) the
electrolyte level should be checked as described below.
1 Park the machine on firm, level ground. Engage the
park brake. Stop the engine.
2 Raise the load bay.
3 Unscrew and remove the battery clamp 21-A.
4 Switch the battery isolator to off and remove the key.
5 Remove the battery cell cover(s).
6 Make sure the level in each cell is 0.250 in (6 mm)
above the plates.
7 If necessary, top up with distilled water.
8 Refit the battery cell cover(s).
9 Refit the battery clamp 21-A.
!MWARNING
Do not top the battery up with acid. The electrolyte
could boil out and burn you.
