A basic Advent xt system requires a minimum of 4 twisted pairs common to all intercom units - if public address (PA) or
door entry telephones are specified then 5 twisted pairs are required.
On new installations a 6 pair CW1308 BT spec cable is recommended. Plan the network route to minimise cable length
using the intercom units to join the cable thereby avoiding additional joint boxes in corridors or roof areas etc. On large
installations the network should be split into two or three smaller legs to reduce the effect of voltage drop and aid future
service/fault finding. The network cable length should not exceed 1200 metres and the total number of network devices
should not exceed 255. A data repeater (P/No. ZXT340) is available for extreme cases.
Single auxiliary devices such as the status module, manager callpoint, network receivers, etc. can be connected to the
system network wiring as shown above.
To eliminate the possibility of data reflections and corruption the network should never be split into multiple legs from a
mid-point in the wiring; small groups of intercoms spurred off at any point should also be avoided.
If an existing site wiring network has spurs of intercoms they should either be integrated into the main loop or isolated
and connected back separately to the controller as additional legs.
Detailed site plans and existing wiring details are imperative before designing an installation.
