•Donotremovethefirstmicroprocessorfromthesystemboardwhenyouinstallthesecond
microprocessor.
•Whenyouinstallthesecondmicroprocessor,youmustalsoinstalladditionalmemory,thefourthandsixth

•Donotmixmicroprocessorswithdifferentcoresinthesameserver.
•Toensureproperserveroperationwhenyouinstallanadditionalmicroprocessor,usemicroprocessors
thathavethesameQuickPathInterconnect(QPI)linkspeed,integratedmemorycontrollerfrequency,core
frequency,powersegment,internalcachesize,andtype.
•Mixingmicroprocessorsofdifferentsteppinglevelswithinthesameservermodelissupported.
•Whenmixingmicroprocessorswithdifferentsteppinglevelswithinthesameservermodel,youdonot
havetoinstallthemicroprocessorwithloweststeppinglevelandfeaturesinmicroprocessorsocket1.
•Bothmicroprocessorvoltageregulatormodulesareintegratedonthesystemboard.
•Readthedocumentationthatcomeswiththemicroprocessortodeterminewhetheryouhavetoupdate
theserverfirmware.Todownloadthelatestlevelofserverfirmwareandothercodeupdatesforyour
server,gotohttp://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral.
•Themicroprocessorspeedsareautomaticallysetforthisserver;therefore,youdonothavetosetany
microprocessorfrequency-selectionjumpersorswitches.
•Ifthethermal-greaseprotectivecover(forexample,aplasticcaportapeliner)isremovedfromtheheat
sink,donottouchthethermalgreaseonthebottomoftheheatsinkorsetdowntheheatsink.Formore

greaseandrequiresreplacingthethermalgrease.

Therearetwotypesofmicroprocessorinstallationtools.Thetoolsaresimilarinfunctionanddesign,
howeverToolAhasonesettingforinstallingonesizeofmicroprocessor,andsupportsthefollowing
familiesofmicroprocessors:E5-26xx,E5-46xx.InstallationToolBhastwosettingsforinstallingtwo
differentsizesofmicroprocessors.ThesettingsthataremarkedonToolBare“L”forsmallerlowcore
microprocessors,and“H”forlargerhighcoremicroprocessors.InstallationToolBsupportsthefollowing
familiesofmicroprocessors:E5-26xx,E5-46xx,E5-26xxv2,E5-46xxv2.
