ToinstallaVMwareESXihypervisor,dothefollowing:
1.Inserttheinstallationdiscintotheopticaldrivethatyouhavesetasthefirststartupdevice.Then,
starttheserverfromtheopticaldrive.
2.Whenthe“LoadingESXiInstaller”messageisdisplayed,waitforamoment.
3.Whenthe“VMwareESxi...”messageisdisplayed,waitforamoment.
4.WhentheVMwareESXiinstallationwelcomewindowisdisplayed,pressEnter.
5.PressF11toacceptthelicenseagreementandcontinuewiththeinstallation.
6.SelectadriveforinstallationandpressEnter.
7.IftheConfirmDiskSelectionwindowisdisplayed,pressEnter.
8.SelectakeyboardlayoutandpressEnter.
9.SetarootpasswordandpressEnter.
Note:Therootpasswordmustcontainatleastsevencharacters.
10.PressF11tostarttheinstallationprocess.
11.WhentheInstallationCompletewindowisdisplayed,pressEntertorestarttheserver.Theinstallation
finishes.Removethediscfromtheopticaldrive.
InstallingadriverforaVMwareESXihypervisor
ToinstalladriverforaVMwareESXihypervisor,dothefollowing:
1.DownloadthedriverfilefromtheLenovoSupportWebsite.Ensurethatthenameofthedriverfileyou
downloadisoffline-bundle.zip.Themostup-to-datedevicedriversforvariousservermodelsarealways
availableontheLenovoSupportWebsiteat:
http://www.lenovo.com/drivers
Note:offline-bundle.ziprepresentsthenameofthedriverpackagefile.Usethecorrespondingfilename
ofthedriverforyourserver.
2.LogintotheESXihostasanadministratorusingthevSphereClient.Dothefollowingtoconnect
thevSphereClienttotheESXihost:
a.PressF2tologintothesystem.
b.SelectTroubleshootingOption➙ESXiShellisEnabled.
c.PressAlt+F1toenterthecommandlineinterface.Usethefollowingcommandtodisablethefirewall:
esxclinetworkrewallset–enabledf alse
Usethefollowingcommandtoviewthestatusofthefirewall:
esxclinetworkrewallget
d.SelectConfigureManagementNetwork➙NetworkAdapterstoconfiguretheIPaddress.Ensure
thattheIPaddressofthevSphereClientandtheIPaddressoftheESXihostarewithinthesameIP
addressrange.
3.Uploadtheoffline-bundle.zipfiletotheESXihostusingtheDatastoreBrowser.
4.InthevSphereClientinventory,right-clickthehostandselectEnterMaintenanceMode.
5.LogintotheESXihostasarootuserusingSSHoriLO/DRAC.
6.Usethefollowingcommandtoinstallthedrivers:
esxclisoftwarevibinstall–d/path/ofine-bundle.zip
