Software and Virus Protection
Lifelines t akes all reasonable st eps t o ensure t hat it ’s soft ware is virus- free. I n line with m odern
com put ing practice, it is advisable t hat continual prot ection against viruses, troj ans, m alware, ad-
ware etc. is provided on the PC used for inst allation and the surrounding syst em s. Please not e t he
following recom m endations which should be support ed by your int ernal I T/ Com put ing depart m ent
procedur es and practices:
1. Virus protection soft ware should be installed on every com put er at risk of infect ion. This soft -
ware should have a resident (online) shield and provide em ail scanning if appropriate.
2. Virus scanning should be set to m anual m ode or aut om at ic if desired but at a t im e when t he
system is not being used.
3. All program s offering auto-updat e features, including Windows, should be set t o m anual or
aut om atic if desired but at a t im e when t he syst em is not being used.
4. Adopt form al departm ental or organisat ional procedures t o ensure the int egrit y and safe op-
eration of t he m edical equipm ent and support ing syst em s.
