Appendix 8: Troubleshooting guide
COM port problems with Bluetooth communication to Trackit Mk3
The COM port is available but is being used by another application.
This could well be t he case if an applicat ion such Microsoft Active Synch is inst alled and polling t he
COM port for a Windows CE device. Make sure Connection Mode for Act ive Synch is set t o Only
When Device is Connect ed, and not to Continuous.
Make sur e ot her applicat ions such as virus prot ection soft ware and per sonal firewalls (ZoneAlarm )
are not accessing the COM port while a connection t o Trackit is being m ade.
Problems starting the recording
The setup has not been sent correctly
Under Trackit St at us, in t he Control Panel, check that Acquire Ready shows Yes. I f it is not ready,
acquisit ion cannot begin. This could be caused by incom plet e transm ission of t he Trackit set up. Try
to adjust t he transm ission delay for serial com m unicat ion in the Trackit software as described
above.
An incorrect setup has been sent
I f an incom patible setup has been sent to t he Trackit the m essage; unable t o com ply will indicate
that. The usual cause for t his is if a T36 or T24P setup has been sent t o a Trackit 24: t he presence
of poly channels result ing in t he set up being rej ect ed. I f an incorrect setup has been sent, the
Trackit Cont rol Panel will show Acquire Ready: No.
The card is not formatt ed correctly
I f the card is not form att ed wit h a correct 16-bit FAT, a recor ding cannot com m ence. Form at the
flash card using the inbuilt Trackit form at ut ility under Get Card I nfo. See Get Card I nfo, in
5.5 Advanced Set t ings.
Ca ut ion: do not at t e m pt t o do a low - le v e l for m a t , or do a st a nda r d for m a t using a SCSI or
USB car d r e a de r.
The card is corrupted
Disk corrupt ion can be caused when a flash card is rem oved from Trackit or t he Card reader while
data is being writt en or accessed.
Trackit : always st op a recording, or if hot swapping wait for t he writ e LED to go out , before rem ov-
ing t he card.
Card reader: m ake sure t he device is st opped, in Card Services, before rem oving the Card. This is
especially im portant in Win2000 syst em s using a USB card reader, where the activity LED st ays on
for several seconds after delet ing an old file. I f the card is rem oved when this LED is on, the card will
be corrupted and a reform at will be necessary. Always stop and ej ect t he card using t he icon in t he
Windows system t ray before physically ej ect ing it .
The card is not insert ed correctly
I f the flash card is not pushed in far enough, t he car d will not engage the pins on t he card reader.
No CF card present, in the St at us section of t he Trackit Control Panel, will evidence t his.
