When batteries are not in use
Whenthetractorisnotbeingusedforalongtime,the
batteriesshouldberechargedeverysixweekstokeep
them charged. Storage batteries not in use will slowly
discharge. A battery that has discharged can freeze at
low ambient temperatures and cause damage to the
batteryandtractor.
NOTE: Discarding old batteries can cause an environ-
mental liability. Check with your local environmental or
recycling center or your dealer for the correct disposal
information.
Follow these general rules to prevent damage to the
electricalsystem.
- Beforeworkingontheelectricalsystem,disconnectthe
batterycables,groundcablefirst,or
turnoffthemasterswitch(ifequipped)andremovethe
key.
- Donotmakeareversebatteryconnection.
- Whenyouuseaboosterbatteryforstarting,connect
negative(-)tonegative(-)andpositive(+)topositive
(+).Usetheboosterbatteryconnectionsprovidedon
thetractor(ifequipped).

- Whenchargingthetractorbatteries,usetheauxiliary
batteryconnectionsonthetractor(ifequipped).Donot
attachdirectlytothebatteryterminals.Donotusea
batterychargingmachineforstartingthe
tractor.
- Nevertrytostartthetractorwhenthebatterycables
aredisconnected.
- Whenyoucarryoutmaintenanceontheengine,cover
thealternatortopreventforeignmaterialfromentering.
- If electric welding is necessary, do the following to
protecttheelectricalcomponents:
A.Disconnectthebattery(s)orturnoffthemasterswitch
(ifequipped).
B.Disconnecttheinstrumentclusterharness.
C.DisconnectthePowershiftcontroller(ifequipped).
D.Disconnectthealternator.
E.DisconnectallECUsandinparticulartheengineEDC
unit.
Puttheweldingequipmentgroundcableascloseas
youcantotheweldarea.
Do not put the ground cable where the current can
flowthroughbearingsoralongchannelswithwiring
harnesses.
