FCC Safety Standards
The Federal Communications Commission [FCC], with its action in General
Docket 79-144, March 13, 1985, has adopted a safety standard for human expo-
sure to radio frequency electromognetic energy emitted by FCC regulated equip-
ment. Proper operation of your radio will result in user exposure substantially
below FCC recommended limits.
The following precautions are recommended:
Do not operate the transmitter of a mobile radio when someone is within
two feet of the antenna.
Do not operate the transmitter of any radio unless all RF connectors are
secure and any open connectors are properly terminated.
Do not operate this equipment near electrical blasting caps or in an explo-
sive atmosphere.
Do not allow children to play with any radio containing a transmitter.
Do no hold the transmit [PTT] button on when not actually desiring to
transmit.
All equipment must be properly grounded according to installation instruc-
tions for safe operation.
•All equipment should be serviced only by qualified technicians.
Servicing the Mobile Radio
Proper repair and maintenance procedures will assure efficient operation and
long life for the mobile radio. If you suspect a radio problem, check the following
items before requesting service from the PUD Telecommunications Department
(extension 5505).
1. Mobile Radio Checks:
- Be sure the mobile radio is turned on.
- Check antenna.
- Try operating the mobile radio from different locations.
- Check the transmitter by transmitting to an alternate radio.
2. Operating Instructions
Review your operating instructions [PUD Mobile Radio Operations
Manual] and ensure that you are using the radio properly.
3. Problem Not Solved:
If after following steps 1 and 2, your mobile radio still has a problem, con-
tact the PUD Telecommunications Department at (425) 783-5505.
