Section IV
Installing the Battery (see diagram on page 60)
1. Turn off the radio and hold it with the back of the radio facing up.
2. Place the two notched tabs of the battery [located at the inside base of the
battery] into the metal cutouts of the radio [located at the inside base of the
radio].
3. Rotate the battery toward the radio and press the top of the battery into the
radio until both battery release levers “click” into place.
Battery Information
The radio receives its power [7.5Vdc] from a rechargeable nickel-cadmium
battery. These batteries are a safe, dependable power source for your radio.
Proper care of the battery when not in the radio will insure its effectiveness and
allow for peak radio performance.
Care should be taken to avoid external [outside the radio] short circuiting of
the battery.
Continuous charging is harmful to the battery. The radio should not be left in
the charger for longer than a weekend.
WARNING: A sustained high-rate discharge [for example, a paper clip placed accidentally
across the battery contacts] may permanently damage the battery, void the battery war-
ranty, and create a burn or fire hazard.
