The device is a desktop printer that utilizes electrophotography by semiconductor laser for its printing method. It is designed to handle various paper weights, from 60 to 120 g/m² in the cassettes and 60 to 220 g/m² in the multi-purpose tray. The paper capacity is 500 sheets (80 g/m²) for the cassette and 100 sheets (80 g/m²) for the multi-purpose tray. The machine supports a wide range of paper types including Plain, Rough, Recycled, Preprinted, Bond, Color, Prepunched, Letterhead, High Quality, Custom 1-8, Transparency (OHP film), Vellum, Labels, Cardstock, and Thick paper. Supported paper sizes include A4, A5, A5 (Landscape), A6, B5, B6, Letter, Legal, Statement, Statement (Landscape), Executive, Oficio II, Folio, 216 × 340 mm, 16K, B5 (ISO), Envelope DL, Envelope C5, Envelope #10, Envelope #9, Envelope #6 3/4, Envelope Monarch, Oufuku Hagaki (Return postcard), Youkei 4, and Youkei 2. Custom paper sizes are also supported, with dimensions ranging from 140 to 216 mm (X) and 210 to 356 mm (Y) for PG L2645 Cassette 1 (or 105 to 216 mm (X) and 148 to 356 mm (Y) for PG L2650/PG L2655 Cassette 1), and 92 to 216 mm (X) and 162 to 356 mm (Y) for Cassettes 2-5. Banner sheets (216 × 470.1 mm to 216 × 915 mm) are also supported in the multi-purpose tray.
The machine boasts impressive printing speeds: for A4 paper, the PG L2645 prints 45 sheets/min, the PG L2650 prints 50 sheets/min, and the PG L2655 prints 55 sheets/min. Letter-sized paper prints at 47 sheets/min for PG L2645, 52 sheets/min for PG L2650, and 57 sheets/min for PG L2655. Legal-sized paper prints at 38 sheets/min for PG L2645, 42 sheets/min for PG L2650, and 46 sheets/min for PG L2655. First print times (A4, from Cassette) are 5.3 seconds or less for PG L2645, 5.4 seconds or less for PG L2650, and 4.5 seconds or less for PG L2655. The resolution options include Fast1200, Fine1200, 600, and 300 dpi. The machine supports various emulations such as PCL6 (PCL-XL, PCL5e), KPDL3, XPS, Open XPS, TIFF/JPEG, IBM Proprinter, LQ-850, and LinePrint.
The device's physical dimensions are 14.97" × 16.16" × 11.24" (380 × 410 × 285 mm) for the PG L2645 and 14.97" × 16.16" × 12.61" (380 × 410 × 320 mm) for the PG L2650/PG L2655. Weights (without toner container) are approximately 31.1 lb (14.1 kg) for PG L2645 and 33.8 lb (15.3 kg) for PG L2650/PG L2655. The operating environment requires a temperature range of 10 to 32.5°C (50 to 90.5°F) and humidity of 15 to 80%. It can operate at altitudes up to 3,500 m (11,482 ft) and brightness up to 1,500 lux.
The machine features a 512 MB memory and various interfaces: one Hi-Speed USB Interface Connector, one Network interface (10 BASE-T/100 BASE-TX/1000 BASE-T), and two Hi-Speed USB Ports. Optional interfaces include eKUIO: 1.
Key usage features include:
- Operation Panel: Equipped with numeric keys, arrow keys, [OK] key, [Back] key, [Menu] key, and [Document Box] key for navigation and setting configuration. Status indicators show print readiness, energy save mode, and error conditions.
- Login/Logout: Supports user login administration with default user names and passwords (e.g., PG L2645: 4500, PG L2650: 5000, PG L2655: 5500). Administrators can manage user accounts and privileges.
- Network Setup: Configurable for wired and wireless networks. Supports TCP/IP (IPv4/IPv6), NetBEUI, and IPSec protocols. Wi-Fi Direct is available for direct connections to computers or handheld devices.
- Energy Saver Function: Includes Sleep and Auto Sleep modes to minimize power consumption when idle. A Power Off Rule (for Europe models) allows automatic power-off after inactivity.
- Software Installation: Software is provided on a DVD for Windows and Mac computers, with options for Express Install and Custom Install.
- Counter: Allows checking the number of printed sheets.
- Security Features: Includes user login administration, auto panel reset, ID card settings (with optional kit), custom box for document storage, data overwrite and encryption (with optional SSD), IPP over SSL, HTTPS, SMTP/POP3 security, IPSec, and SNMPv3.
- Custom Box: Users can create custom boxes to store frequently used documents for later retrieval and printing directly from the machine.
- USB Drive Printing: Documents can be printed directly from a USB drive without a PC, supporting PDF, TIFF, JPEG, XPS, OpenXPS, and Encrypted PDF file types.

- Regular Cleaning: Instructions for cleaning the registration roller and vents to ensure optimum printing quality.
- Toner Container Replacement: Guidance on replacing toner containers when toner is low or empty. The life of toner containers varies by model (e.g., PG L2645: 12,500 images, PG L2650: 15,500 images, PG L2655: 21,000-25,000 images).
- Waste Toner Box Replacement: Procedures for replacing the waste toner box when full.
- Troubleshooting: A comprehensive section with checkpoints and corrective actions for various malfunctions, printed image troubles (e.g., light, dark, fuzzy, skewed prints), and messages (e.g., paper jams, access denied, memory full).
- Clearing Paper Jams: Detailed instructions with illustrations for clearing paper jams from the multi-purpose tray, cassettes, duplex unit, inside the machine, inner tray/rear cover, and bulk feeder.
Optional equipment available for the machine includes:
- Card Authentication Kit(B): Enables user login administration using ID cards.
