Machine does not
reproduce tape
Set to SEL-REP
and check if machine
reproduces
Set to INPUT and
check if input signal
is output
Reproduce head is
defective
Reproduce amp is
defective
Reproduce amp is
defective
Power supply or
output amp is bad
Make sure output knob
is not at minimum and
SRL is off
Machine does not
record
Confirm if VU meter
operates properly in
INPUT mode
Confirm if REC LED
(AMP & REC button lamp)
lights
Proceed to next step
i.e., confirm REC LED
illumination
Input Amp is defective
Bias circuit is defective
AMP LED only does
not light
Both AMP & REC
LEDs do not light
CONTROL PCB, AMP PCB
or cables defective
REC SW is defective
CONTROL PCB is defective
Frequency response
is not flat
Confirm that tape path
is not dirty
Reproduce frequency
response is bad
Record frequency
response is bad
Confirm if frequency
response is bad at only
one speed
Adjust reproduce
frequency response
with Repro test tape
Confirm that tape being
used is same as tape used
for adjustment
If freq response is bad
at one speed, readjust
for that speed
If freq response is bad
at all frequencies, check
for following problems
Input and REC/REP
levels are different
Noise in recorded signal
Mixing console and
recorder levels are
different
Confirm that tape being
used is same as tape used
for adjustment
Noise in INPUT mode
Noise in REC/REP mode
INPUT Level Matching
needs to be adjusted
Check EQ and bias. If OK,
Amp or Head is bad
EQ, Bias need to be
adjusted
Heads are dirty, or
Amp is defective
Input amp is bad
Adjust Bias and REC
levels with correct tape
