Compasssafedistance
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationforyourproductyoushouldaimtomaintainthemaximumpossible
distancebetweentheproductandanyinstalledcompass.Thisdistanceshouldbeatleast1m(3ft)in
alldirections.Forsmallervesselsitmaynotbepossibletoachievethisdistance
.Inthissituation
ensurethatthecompassisnotaffectedbytheproductwhenitispoweredon.
EMCinstallationguidelines
Raymarine®equipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriateElectromagneticCompatibility
(EMC)regulations,tominimizeelectromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe
effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyoursystem
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceisnotcompromised.
Note:
Inareasofe xtremeEMCinterference,someslightinterferencemaybenoticed.Wherethisoccurs
theproductandthesourceoftheinterferenceshouldbeseparatedbyagreaterdistance.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwhereverpossible:
R aymarine®equipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
Atleast1m(3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcablescarryingradiosignalse.g.VHFradios,
cablesandantennas.InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshouldbeincreasedto2m(7ft).
Morethan2m(7ft)fromthepathofaRadarbeam.ARadarbeamcannormallybeassumedto
spread20degreesaboveandbelowtheradiatingelement.
Theproductissuppliedpowerfromaseparatebatteryfromthatusedforenginestart.Thisis
importanttopreventerraticbehavioranddatalosswhichcanoccuriftheenginestartdoesnot
haveaseparatebattery.
OnlyRaymarine®specifiedcablesareused.
Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsoisdetailedintheinstallationinstructions.
Note:
Whereconstraintsontheinstallationpreventanyoftheaboverecommendations,alwaysensure
themaximumpossibleseparationbetweendifferentitemsofelectricalequipment,toprovidethe
bestconditionsforEMCperformancethroughouttheinstallation.
Suppressionferrites
R aymarinecablesmaybepre-fittedorsuppliedwithsuppressionferrites.Theseareimportantfor
correctEMCperformance.Ifferritesaresuppliedseparatelytothecables(i.e.notpre-fitted),you
mustfitthesuppliedferrites,usingthesuppliedinstructions.
Ifaferritehastoberemovedforanypurpose(e.g.installationormaintenance),itmustbereplaced
intheoriginalpositionbeforetheproductisused.
Useonlyferritesofthecorrecttype,suppliedbyRaymarineoritsauthorizeddealers.
Whereaninstallationrequiresmultipleferritestobeaddedtoacable,additionalcableclipsshould
beusedtopreventstressontheconnectorsduetotheextraweightofthecable.
Connectionstootherequipment
Requirementforferritesonnon-Raymarinecables.
IfyourproductistobeconnectedtootherequipmentusingacablenotsuppliedbyRaymarine,a
suppressionferriteMUSTalwaysbeattachedtotheendofthecablenearesttotheRaymarine
product.
AntennamountingandEMEexposure
EnsurethatyourVHFantennaisconnectedtotheradiobeforetransmission.
Raymarine®declaresaMaximumPermissibleExposure(MPE)radiusof1.8meters(5.9ft.)forthis
system,assuming25wattsoutputtoanomnidirectionalantennaof3dBigainorless.
Forwatercraftwithsuitablestructures,theantennabasemustbeatleast3.8meters(12.5ft)above
themaindecktomeettheMPEforpersonsupto2metres(6.6ft)tall.Forwatercraftwithoutsuch
structures,theantennamustbemountedsothatitsbaseisaminimumof1.8meters(5.9ft.)vertically
fromheadsofallpersons.
