4.8 Eye Safety
4.8.1 LRF 6019 and LRF 6019 LP
LRF 6019 and LRF 6019 LP meet Class 1 eye safety requirements according to IEC 60825. The eye
safety of the host system has to be tested and guaranteed at the system level by the OEM system
integrator.
4.8.2 LRF 6019 HP
WARNING
INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION
AVOID EXPOSURE TO BEAM
CLASS 3B LASER PRODUCT
Wavelength: 830 nm
Beam divergence: 0.34 mrad
Maximum Power: 17.3 mW
NOHD (Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance): 200 m (10 s)
NSHD (Nominal Skin Hazard Distance): 5 m (10 s)
In Case of a broken fiber:
Nominal Ocular Hazard Distance: 2.5 m (10 s)
Nominal Skin Hazard Distance: 0.15 m (10 s)
The LRF 6019 HP (A/N: 914168) is a Class 3B laser product according to EN 60825.
The pointer is not eye safe and is not visible to the unaided human eye (λ = 830 nm).
The LRF range capabilities at 1550 nm remain Class1 eye safe.
Protective measures such as wearing appropriate laser safety glasses for 790 to 850 nm have
to be taken to avoid direct exposure to the pointer laser beam. Integration personnel must be
trained how to handle non-eye safe lasers. Implementation of laser safety measures is the
system integrator’s responsibility.
The LRF 6019 HP provides a software interlock function to ensure that the pointer is not
switched-on unintentionally. To emit a non-eye safe laser beam, the LRF 6019 HP has to be
powered correctly, woken-up and the pointer command including the interlock command has to
be sent via the serial interface.
Safran Vectronix can provide a filter to reduce pointer intensity for testing purpose in laboratory
conditions (see chapter 4.8.3).
Safran Vectronix recommends the use of eye safety goggles from Univet with an UL-2005 filter.
