subspecialties
 Educated in anatomy, physiology, patient care, and
identification of pathology in ultrasound images
 Many sonographers have a Bachelor's degree;
some have advanced degrees in related health
care subjects
Cardiologist
 Performs invasive and non-invasive
ultrasound exams
 Interprets exam data, including
echocardiography exam data
 Writes and assembles exam findings in
a report
 Medical doctor
 Expert in diagnostic imaging, including computed
tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI), X-ray, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine
 Advanced training in imaging physics with typically
four to six years of post-doctoral training in the field
of cardiology

 Performs ultrasound exams
