3 System Setup
Instructions for Use 3 - 21
System Security
The ultrasound system includes features to protect patient confidentiality, for example,
removing or hiding patient-identifying information from ultrasound studies or transferring
encrypted DICOM communication from the system to a DICOM-compatible device.
Your Siemens service representative can configure additional security features on your
ultrasound system, for example, encrypting the system hard disk and restricting access to the
system by requiring a user account and password.
Note: Hard drive encryption requires the eSieCrypt hard disk encryption software option.
Use the system configuration menu to select encrypted transfer of DICOM communication.

to Chapter C2 in the Features and Applications Reference manual.
Restricting User Access and Permissions
When the security package is activated, you can restrict access to the ultrasound system by
requiring a user account and password. You can also restrict access to the following tasks on
the system:
Viewing studies stored on the ultrasound system
Connecting to printers within the patient environment
Backing up or restoring ultrasound system data
Changing or applying new ultrasound system settings
Tracking User Activities
When the security package is activated, the ultrasound system tracks user activities, including
access to patient data, and saves the information to a security log file. The log file is stored on
the system hard disk or a network location.
For information about the user activities contained in the log file, contact your ultrasound
system administrator.
Disk Space Security Indicators
The system displays an icon on the image screen when the disk space allocation for the
security log file is low. Contact your ultrasound system administrator to archive the log file of the
audit trail.

Low disk space warning icon (yellow)
Indicates the system disk space is low and the ultrasound system administrator must archive the
ultrasound system's log file. Failure to archive the log file will result in a loss of system functionality.

Full disk warning icon (red)
Indicates the system disk space is full. The ultrasound system will be locked from further access and
no further actions may be taken on the system until the log file is archived.
Contact the ultrasound system administrator immediately.
