11.3  11.3 Partitioning the hard disk 
11.3.1  Setting up the partitions under Windows XP Embedded 
After you have installed a new hard disk, or if partitions are faulty, or when you wish to 
change the partitioning on your hard disk, you need to create or reconfigure partitions on the 
hard disk  
Partitioning the Compact Flash card 
The factory state of the Compact Flash card includes the following partitions: 
 
Size of the card Partition  Name 
512 Mbytes  1 Gbytes 
File system 
1. Partition  system  455 Mbytes  867 Mbytes  NTFS (compressed) 
2. Partition  DATA  Rest *  Rest *  NTFS (compressed) 
* Due to partitioning/formatting, the actual Compact Flash capacity does not correspond to 
the memory size specified on the Compact Flash. 
In order to revert to the original factory state partitions, we recommend using the software 
tool SIMATIC PC/PG Image Creator. Detailed information about using this tool is available in 
the manufacturer documentation.  
11.3.2  Setting up partitions under Windows XP Professional / Windows 2000 MUI 
After you have installed a new hard disk, or if partitions are faulty, or when you wish to 
change the partitioning on your hard disk, you need to create or reconfigure partitions on the 
hard disk  
Partitioning the hard disk 
The factory state of the hard disk with Windows XP Professional includes the following 
partitions: 
 
Partition  Name  Size  File system 
1. Partition  system  15 GB  NTFS (not compressed) 
2. Partition  DATA  Rest  NTFS (not compressed)
