4.12 Time-of-day synchronization
CP 1243-8 IRC
102 Operating Instructions, 02/2018, C79000-G8976-C385-03
●
Time from another subscriber
In this case the CP adopts the time of day from a subscriber in the connected network.
Time-of-day masters can for example be:
– A synchronized CPU
– A subscriber with a time receiver
– A master station PC (e.g. ST7cc/ST7sc) connected to the network
General information on configuration
Parameter groups for time-of-day synchronization
For configuring the time-of-day synchronization the following parameter groups are available:
●
Parameter group of the CP
– Receive time
Here you specify via which of the connected networks or via which subscriber the CP
will receive the time of day.
Here, you also configure the NTP servers if the CP will be synchronized directly via
NTP.
●
Time-of-day synchronization via classic WAN networks is only relevant when using the
ST7 protocol.
Enable time-of-day synchronization via classic networks directly on the network using the
parameter group there. You also specify the synchronization cycle.
The settings for synchronization are then adopted by all communications modules
connected to this network.
The send direction of the time-of-day frames is derived automatically from the node type
of the connected interfaces:
Master station ⇒ Node station ⇒ Station
The settings for the network are not possible with time-of-day synchronization via Ethernet.
Configuring time-of-day synchronization
The procedure describes the configuration with telecontrol communication activated.
The CP can only be a time slave.
1. Network an interface of the CP with a network to which a module is connected that can
forward the time or that is time master.
Receiving the time is supported for the Ethernet interface with the MSC protocol and for
the serial interface, not for Ethernet interface with the setting "Network type" = "Neutral".
