Obtaining the Basic Bearing Data
To obtain the basic bearing data for a new measuring
point, you have to work with the bearing catalogue,
the TYPE No. table in figure 10, and the A2011. You
also have to know the rpm of the shaft.
Assume that the rpm is 360 and that you want to
obtain NORM and TYPE Nos. for a spherical roller
bearing with SKF catalogue number 23168CC/W33.
TYPE No.: Compare the bearing's designation and
its profile in the bearing catalogue with the TYPE No.
table. Spherical roller bearings have TYPE No. 7.
Mean diameter Dm: From the bearing catalogue you
can obtain the bearing's shaft diameter d and its
outer diameter D. Add the figures and divide by 2 to
obtain the mean diameter Dm. For bearing 23168CC/
W33, the figures are d = 340 and D = 580, giving
Dm = 460.
ISO number: If the manufacturer uses catalogue num-
bers which follow ISO standard, the size of all bear-
ings with TYPE Nos. 1 through 8 is coded in the last
three digits of the ISO number. For bearing 23168CC/
W33, the ISO part of the catalogue number is 23168.
NORM No. from ISO Number, rpm
For bearings with TYPE No. 1 through 8, the A2011
can calculate the NORM No. and the mean diameter
using the ISO bearing number. Press the SET key and
set the TYPE No. and the accumulation, as described
on the previous page. Press SET again to get the
menu shown in figure 9A. If you have used this menu
previously, the last values set will be shown instead
of dashes. Set ISO x x to 168 as follows:
• Press and hold down UP to set the last two digits
(in cursor position) to 68.
• Press LEFT to move the cursor to the first digit.
Press UP to set the digit to 1. Press SET to get to
the rpm line. The Dm line will now read 460.
• Press UP or DOWN to set the digit at the cursor
position. Press LEFT to move to the next digit,
change with UP or DOWN, until the line reads
360.
• Press SET twice. This will first bring you to the
Dm line, and then change the NORM No. to 43.
Press ENT.
A Menu for NORM No. calculation
NORM No. from rpm and Dm
If you have no ISO number, hop over the ISO line with
SET. Input the rpm, using UP or DOWN to change the
digit in cursor position, RIGHT / LEFT to go to the
next digit. Input the mean diameter Dm, press SET to
obtain the NORM No. 43. Press ENT.
The digits on the ISO line will change to dashes (- - -)
when the Dm line is changed.
The maximum rpm is 19 999. The maximum mean
diameter is 1 999. The highest NORM No. is 58, the
lowest is 10 (below 10 the LR/HR readings are not
evaluated). NORM No. 0 is set for unnormalized read-
ings.
