The data clearly demonstrates how the ARC mode feature improves spatial freedom. However, minimizing coil
misalignment is recommended whenever possible, as a large misalignment leads to lower efficiency of power
transfer. Since FOD is evaluated based on power loss in the system, a large misalignment may also trigger FOD
protection.
8.4.3 Spatial freedom in the Z-axis
Z-axis distance between the coils, also known as charging gap, is an additional parameter which significantly
affects charging performance. Therefore, STEVAL-WLC38RX was also tested at various charging gap distances.
The measurements examined two key performance indicators – efficiency and maximum delivered power.
