ATSC
Acronym that stands for AdvancedTelevision
SystemsCommittee and the name of the
digital broadcasting standards.
Aspect Ratio
Tbe widtb of aTVscreen relative to its
height. Conventional TVs are 4:3 (in
other words, the screen is almost square);
widescreen models are 16:9 (the screen is
almost twice as wide as its height).
Dolby Digital
Tbe system developed by Dolby Labora-
tories to compress digital sound. It offers
stereo sound (2ch) or multi-channel audio.

HDTV (high definition TV)
Ultimate digital format that produces high
resolution and high picture quality.
NTSC
Acronym that stands for National Television
Systems Committee and the name of the
current analog broadcasting standards.
Password
A stored 4-digit number that allows access
to parental control features.
Region Code
Regions associate discs and players with
particular areas of the world, this unit will
only play back discs that have compatible
region codes. You can find the region code
of your unit by looking on the rear panel.
Some discs are compatible with more than
one region (or all regions).
SDTV (standard definition TV)
Standard digital format tbat is similar to tbe
NTSCpicture quality.
• Wipethe front paneland otherexteriorsurfacesof the unit withasoft
cloth immersedin lukewarmwater and wrungdry.
• Neveruseasolventor alcohol.Donot sprayinsecticideliquid nearthe
unit. Suchchemicalsmaycausedamageand discolorationto the exposed
surfaces.
Wipethe panelwitha soft cloth. Beforecleaningthe panel,disconnectthe
powercord.

Shouldyour unit becomeinoperative,do not try to correctthe problem
yourself.Thereareno userserviceahie partsinside.Turnoff the unit,
unplug the powercordand call ourtoll free customersupport linefound on
the coverofthis manualto locateanauthorized servicecenter.

A degaussingcircuit inthis unit clearsup colorerrorson the TVscreen.
Colorerrorsoccurwhen there isanyexcessmagnetismcloseto the unit.
Thiscircuit isdesignedto operate oncewhen the unit isfirst plugged in. If
youseeminor colorerrorsonthe screen,unplugthe unit for approximately
30 minutes.Whenyou plugthe unit again,the degaussingcircuitwill
operateto clearerrors.Takethis step anytime the TVscreenisaccidentally
magnetizedor whenyoumovethe unit.

If the unit still doesnotperform properlywhenitis operated,while refer-
ring to the relevant sectionsand to "TroubleshootingGuide"in this owner's
manual,the laseroptical pickupunit maybedirty. Consultyour dealer
or anAuthorized ServiceCenterfor inspectionand cleaningofthe laser
optical pickupunit.

• Handlethe discssothat fingerprints and dust donot adhereto the
surfacesof thediscs.

•Always store the disc in its protective case when it is not used.
•To dean-off, use a soft cloth.
• Donot use a hard clothsince this will marthe disc.
•Wipethe discin astraight line from center to edge.
• Neverwipe with a circular motion.
• Donot usedetergent or abrasivecleaningagents.
If the remote control isnot workingproperly,youcanuseanAM radioor
digitalcamera(includingacellular phonewith built-in camera)to seeif it
issendingout an infrared signal.
•With an AM radio:
Tunethe AMradio station to a non-broadcasting
frequency. Pointthe remotecontroltowards it,
pushany button and listen. Ifthe soundfrom the "_
radioflutters,it isreceivingthe remotecontrol's
infrared signal.
• With a digital camera
(includingbuilt-in cell phone
cameras)
Pointadigital camera
towardsthe remote control.
Pushanybutton onthe
remote controland look
through the digital camera.
If the infrared lightappears
through the camera,the
remote control isworking.
