GENERAL
1 If the torque load is not specified in the maintenance procedure, use the standard torque load specified
in Table 1 thru Table 6. Calculate the torque load for a self locking nut as follows:
- Measure the running torque when you install the self locking nut.
- Torque load = standard torque load + measured running torque.
2 If the torque load is specified in the maintenance procedures, use the specified torque load. Calculate
the torque load for a self locking nut as follows:
- Measure the running torque when you install the self locking nut.
- Torque load = specified torque load + measured running torque.
RUNNING AND BREAKAWAY TORQUES
3 The running and breakaway torques are specified in Table 1:
NOTES
(1) Maximum Running Torque - The highest permitted self-locking torque measured during the installation
or removal of a nut, with no axial load on the base of the nut. Do not use a nut that has a running torque
more than the maximum specified in the tables.
(2) Minimum Breakaway Torque - The torque necessary to start a nut to turn counter-clockwise from a
fixed position with no axial load on the base of the nut. Measure minimum breakaway torque during
installation. Do not use a nut that has a breakaway torque less than the minimum specified in the tables.
