NOTE Do not remove the cushions or covers unless there are signs of damage.
A. Harness reel.
(Ref. IPL Fig. 1, Sheet 4)
CAUTION
YOU MUST CONTROL THE RETRACTION OF THE HARNESS REEL WEBBING
STRAPS WHEN YOU RELEASE THEM FROM AN EXTENDED POSITION. IF YOU DO
NOT CONTROL THE RETRACTION OF THE STRAPS THEY CAN TWIST IN THE
REEL. IF A STRAP TWISTS IN THE INERTIA REEL IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
NOTE
The operating cables, harness lock/unlock lever and inertia reels are part of the 5-point harness
(10).
(1) Harness reel assembly.
(a) Move the harness lock/unlock lever to the down (LOCK) position and make sure the webbing on
each inertia reel cannot extend.
(b) Move the harness lock/unlock lever to the up (UNLOCK) position and make sure the webbing on
each inertia reel can extend.
(c) Extend each shoulder harness webbing a short distance then apply a force to quickly extend the
webbing. Make sure the inertia lock engages and stops the webbing extending, then allow the
webbing to fully retract under control.
(d) Extend each shoulder harness webbing to full extension.
(e) Make sure the shoulder harness webbing is not contaminated, damaged or worn.
NOTE
If the shoulder harness webbing twists while retracting into the reel, refer to “TESTING
AND FAULT ISOLATION” on page 101.
(f) With the shoulder harness webbing at full extension, move the harness lock/unlock lever to the
down (LOCK) position and retract the webbing under control. Make sure the webbing does not
twist.
B. 5-point harness.
(Ref. IPL Fig. 1, Sheets 4 and 9)
(1) Visually examine the 5-point harness (10) as far as possible for contamination, damage or wear.
Move the harness lap-strap webbing through the adjusters as necessary to complete the webbing
examination.
(2) Make sure the four harness webbing lugs correctly engage and release the QRB.
(a) Install a harness lug into the related part of the QRB. Pull the webbing outwards to make sure it
is correctly installed.
(b) Do para step (a) again for each of the remaining three harness lugs.
(c) Operate the QRB and make sure the four harness lugs release at the same time.
