CHECKS
1. General
A. The procedures given are required to make certain the repaired equipment will meet new equipment
standards of operation. They include a thorough examination for unacceptable wear or deterioration as
well as for damage or other defects. Do not keep a part for an assembly if it is found to be in a unsatisfac-
tory condition. If there is any doubt about the serviceability of a part, replace the part.
B. Visually check all parts for the criteria that follow:
(1) Metal parts:
- Security of attachment
- Cracks or fractures
- Corrosion, deterioration, contamination or distortion
- Loose or missing rivets
- Abrasion, scratches or wear
- Faulty or broken locking devices
- External damage.
(2) Webbing:
- Security of attachment
- Contamination, damage or wear.
C. Use a strong light source and an appropriate inspection mirror to examine all surfaces.
D. Use only tools appropriate for the task and in good condition.
E. All repairs are to be done by skilled personnel.
F. Do the before flight checks at para 3.
G. Do the checks at para 4. every 500 flight hours or yearly (whichever occurs first).
H. Lifing
(1) To make sure design reliability and safety is maintained throughout the seats in-service life, the life
of all items is specified in terms of, Installed Life and Total Life. See below for the definitions:
(a) Installed Life - The maximum life (provided that Total Life is not exceeded) from the date of in-
stallation on to the seat. This assumes the item has been installed under satisfactory conditions.
(b) Total Life - The maximum life from the manufacturing date, including installed life.
(2) The customer is responsible for keeping a record of the ‘Installation Date’ and the date the item is
required to be removed from the seat i.e. the ‘Removal Date’ for all Life Restricted Items (LRIs). The
definitions are provided below:
(a) Installation Date - The month and year in which the LRI was removed from the original unopened
packaging and installed onto the seat.
(b) Removal Date - The ‘Installation Date’ plus the ‘Installed Life’.
