Testing
Note:Beforedisconnectingtheignitionswitchfortesting,theswitchandits
circuitwiringshouldbetestedasaTECelectricalinputusingtheInfoCenter
Display(seeInfoCenterDisplay(page6–8)).Ifinputtestingveriesthatthe
ignitionswitchandcircuitwiringarefunctioningcorrectly,nofurtherignition
switchtestingisnecessary.If,however,inputtestingdeterminesthattheignition
switchandcircuitwiringarenotfunctioningcorrectly,proceedwiththefollowing
ignitionswitchtestingprocedure.
1.Parkmachineonalevelsurface,lowercuttingdecks,engageparkingbrake
andstopengine.Removekeyfromignitionswitch.
2.Removeconsolearmcoverstogainaccesstoignitionswitch(seeConsole
Arm(page8–10)).
3.Disconnectwireharnessconnectorfromignitionswitch.
4.TheignitionswitchterminalsareidentiedinFigure185andthecircuitry
oftheswitchisshowninbelowtable.Withtheuseofamultimeter(ohms
setting),theswitchfunctionscanbetestedtodeterminewhethercontinuity
existsbetweenthevariousterminalsforeachswitchposition.Verify
continuitybetweenswitchterminals.

Note:Ignitionswitchterminals1and6areconnectedinternally.Terminals4
and5arealsoconnectedinternally.Theseterminalsshouldhavecontinuity
regardlessofswitchposition.
5.Replaceignitionswitchiftestingdeterminesthatitisfaulty.
6.Iftheignitionswitchtestscorrectlyandacircuitproblemstillexists,check
wireharness(seeAppendixA(pageA–1)).
7.Aftertestingiscomplete,connectmachinewireharnessconnectortoignition
switch.Secureconsolearmcoverstomachinewithremovedfasteners(see
ConsoleArm(page8–10)).
