Thegearpumpowtestshouldbeperformedtomakesurethatthemow,
steering,lift/lower,coolingfanandtractionchargecircuitshaveadequate
hydraulicow.GearpumpsectionsareillustratedinFigure91.Therstgear
pumpsectionprovideshydraulicowforcuttingdecks2,3and5(alsodeck7
ontheGM4700-D).Thesecondgearpumpsectionprovideshydraulicowfor
cuttingdecks1and4(alsodeck6ontheGM4700-D).Thethirdgearpump
sectionprovideshydraulicowforthesteering,lift/lowerandtractioncharge
circuits.Thefourthgearpumpsectionprovideshydraulicowfortheengine
coolingfancircuit.
Note:Overaperiodoftime,thegearsandwearplatesinthegearpumpcan
wear.Awornpumpwillbypassoilandmakethepumplessefcient.Eventually,
enoughoillosswilloccurtocausecircuitproblems(e.g.cuttingdeckmotors
stallingunderheavycuttingconditions,liftorsteeringproblems).Continued
operationwithaworn,inefcientgearpumpcangenerateexcessiveheatand
causedamagetothesealsandothercomponentsinthehydraulicsystem.
ProcedureforGearPumpFlowTest
CAUTION
Preventpersonalinjuryand/ordamagetoequipment.Readall
WARNINGS,CAUTIONSandPrecautionsforHydraulicTestingatthe
beginningofthissection.
1.Makesurehydraulicoilisatnormaloperatingtemperaturebyoperating
themachineforapproximatelyten(10)minutes.Makesurethehydraulic
reservoirisfull.
2.Parkmachineonalevelsurfacewiththecuttingdecksloweredandoff.Make
sureengineisoffandtheparkingbrakeisapplied.
3.Raiseandsupportoperatorseattogainaccesstogearpump.
