Theparkingbrakeswitchisanormallyopenproximityswitch.Theparkingbrake
switchisattachedtothebottomoftheRHbrakepedal(Figure199).
Whentheparkingbrakeisnotapplied,theparkingbrakedetentispositioned
nearthetargetendoftheparkingbrakeswitchsotheswitchisclosed.The
parkingbrakedetentismovedawayfromtheswitchwhentheparkingbrakeis
appliedcausingtheswitchtoopen.
SwitchTesting
Note:Beforedisconnectingtheparkingbrakeswitchfortesting,theswitchand
itscircuitwiringshouldbetestedasaTECelectricalinputusingtheInfoCenter
Display(seeInfoCenterDisplay(page6–8)).Ifinputtestingveriesthatthe
parkingbrakeswitchandcircuitwiringarefunctioningcorrectly,nofurtherbrake
switchtestingisnecessary.If,however,inputtestingdeterminesthatthebrake
switchandcircuitwiringarenotfunctioningcorrectly,proceedwiththefollowing
parkingbrakeswitchtestingprocedure.
1.Parkmachineonalevelsurface,lowercuttingdecks,engageparkingbrake
andstopengine.Removekeyfromignitionswitch.
2.Disconnectwireharnesselectricalconnectorfromtheparkingbrakeswitch.
3.Checkthecontinuityoftheswitchbyconnectingamultimeter(ohmssetting)
acrosstheconnectorterminals.
4.Whentheparkingbrakeisreleased(brakenotapplied),thereshouldbe
continuity(closed)betweentheswitchterminals.
5.Whentheparkingbrakepedalisdepressed(brakeapplied),thereshouldnot
becontinuity(open)betweentheswitchterminals.
