Thetractionpedalpositionsensorisconnectedtothetractionpedalassembly
(Figure208).Thispositionsensordeterminestheneutralbandforthetraction
pedal,thedirectionoftraveldesiredbytheoperatorandthetractionspeed.The
positionsensorisasingleanalog,dualdigitalsignalelectronicdevice.The
positionsensorportionisavariableresistorthatprovidesananalogsignalfor
theTECcontrollertodeterminethedesiredgroundspeedbasedonhowfarthe
tractionpedalismoved.Thetractionpedalpositionsensoralsohousestwo
(2)switchesthatareusedtodeterminetheneutralposition(deadband)and
theindicateddirectionoftravel(forwardorreverse).Asthetractionpedalis
depressed,theinternalwiperofthepositionsensormovesandsendstheanalog
signaltotheTECcontrollertodeterminemachinedirectionandspeed.
ThetractionpedalpositionsensormustbecalibratedwiththeTECcontrollerto
determinetheneutralandfullspeedsetpointsforboththeforwardandreverse
directions.Thepositionsensorcalibrationprocesscanbecompletedusing
theInfoCenterdisplay.
Aproperlyinstalledandcalibratedtractionpedalpositionsensoriscriticalto
accuratetractionresponseandpositionsensorlife.Usecarewheninstallingand
calibratingthepositionsensor.
Beforesuspectingafaultypositionsensor,thesensoranditscircuitwiring
shouldbetestedasaTECinputwiththeInfoCenterDisplay(seeInfoCenter
Display(page6–8)).Ifnecessary,followcalibrationproceduresforthetraction
pedalpositionsensorfoundintheAdjustmentssectionofthischapter.Ifposition
sensorreplacementisnecessary,refertoTractionPedal(page8–7).
