5.Whilecharging,occasionallycheckthebattery.Iftheelectrolyteisviolently
gassingorspewingorifthebatterycasefeelshottothetouch,thecharging
ratemustbeloweredortemporarilystopped.
6.Determineifbatteryisfullychargedbeforeremovingbatteryfromcharger.
Eitherofthefollowingprocedurescanbeused:
A.Continuechargingandreducechargingrateasneededuntilatwo(2)
hourperiodresultsinnoincreaseinvoltage.Opencircuitvoltageshould
beapproximately12.6voltsforafullychargedbattery.
B.Ifthebatteryelectrolyteisaccessible,three(3)hourspriortotheend
ofthecharging,measurethespecicgravityofabatterycellonceper
hour.Thebatteryisfullychargedwhenthecellsaregassingfreelyata
lowchargingrateandthereislessthana0.003changeinspecicgravity
forthree(3)consecutivereadings.
