Thehydraulictractioncircuitconsistsofavariabledisplacementpistonpump
(P5)connectedinaclosedloop,parallelcircuitto2orbitalrollervanewheel
motors.Thetractionpumpinputshaftisrotatedbyadriveshaftthatisdriven
fromtheengineywheel.
Tractioncircuitpressure(forwardandreverse)canbemeasuredattestports
locatedinthehydraulictubesthatconnectthefrontwheelmotors.
ForwardDirection
Pushingthetopofthetractionpedalanglesthetractionpumpswashplateto
createaowofuid.Thisuidowisdirectedtothewheelmotorsviahydraulic
hosesandtubestodrivethewheelsintheforwarddirection.Forwardtraction
pressureislimitedto25,000kPa(3,625psi)bytheforwardtractionreliefvalve
(R3)locatedinthetractionpump.
Fluidowingfromthewheelmotorsreturnstothevariabledisplacementpump
andiscontinuouslypumpedthroughthetractioncircuitaslongasthetraction
pedalispushed.
Theangleoftheswashplatedeterminespumpowandultimatelytraction
speed.Whenthetractionpedalispressedasmallamount,asmallswashplate
rotationresultsinlowpumpoutputandlowertractionspeed.Whenthetraction
pedalispressedfully,thepumpswashplaterotatesfullytoprovidemaximum
pumpoutputandtractionspeed.
Gearpumpsection(P3)suppliesuidowforthesteeringcircuitandalso
providesaconstantsupplyofchargeuidtotheclosedlooptractioncircuit.
Thischargeuidprovideslubricationfortractioncircuitcomponentsandalso
replenishestractioncircuituidthatislostduetointernalleakageinthetraction
circuit.
Gearpump(P3)takesitssuctionfromthehydraulicreservoir.Chargepumpow
isdirectedtothelowpressuresideoftheclosedlooptractioncircuit.Charge
pressureislimitedbythechargereliefvalve(R5)locatedinthetractionpump.
Thechargereliefpressureto1,400kPa(200psi).
Thepistonpump(P5)includesaushingvalve(R10)thatbleedsoffasmall
amountofhydraulicuidforcoolingoftheclosedlooptractioncircuit.Thecharge
systemreplenishesuidthatisbledfromthetractioncircuitbytheushingvalve.
ReverseDirection
Thetractioncircuitoperatesessentiallythesameinreverseasitdoesinthe
forwarddirection.However,theowthroughthecircuitisreversed.Pushingthe
bottomofthetractionpedalrotatesthetractionpumpswashplatetocreatea
owofuid.Thisuidisdirectedtothewheelmotorstodrivethewheelsinthe
reversedirection.Reversetractionpressureislimitedto25,000kPa(3,625psi)
bythereversetractionreliefvalve(R4)locatedinthetractionpump.
Fluidowingfromthewheelmotorsreturnstothetractionpumpandis
continuouslypumpedthroughtheclosedlooptractioncircuitaslongasthe
tractionpedalispushed.
Thechargecircuitandushingvalve(R10)functionthesameinreverseas
theydointheforwarddirection.
