Thereareanumberoffactorsthatcancontributetounsatisfactoryqualityofcut,
someofwhichmaybeturfconditions.Theturfconditionssuchasexcessive
thatch,sponginess,orattemptingtocutofftoomuchgrassheightmaynot
alwaysbeovercomebyadjustingthecuttingunit.Itisimportanttoremember
thatthelowertheheight-of-cut,themorecriticalthesefactorsare.
RefertotheCuttingUnitOperator’sManualfordetailedcuttingunitadjustment
procedures.Forcuttingunitrepairinformation,refertoServiceandRepairs
(page9–17).

GovernedenginespeedForbestcuttingperformanceandappearance,
engineshouldberunathigh-idlespeedduring
machineoperation(usetheInfoCenterdisplay
tochecktheenginespeed);refertoChapter4:
YanmarDieselEngine(page4–1)forhigh-idle
speedspecication.
ReelspeedAllthecuttingreelsshouldrotateatthesame
speed(within100rpm).
Allthecuttingunitsshouldhaveequalbedknife
toreelandheight-of-cutadjustments.
Ensurethatthereelspeedselectioniscorrect
(usetheInfoCenterdisplaytocheckandadjust
thereelspeed).
RefertotheTractionUnitOperator’sManual
forrecommendationsforreelspeedsettings.
Reelbearingcondition
Checkthereelbearingsforwearandreplace
ifnecessary.
RefertoReelAssemblyintheServiceand
Repairssectionofthischapter.
BedknifetoreeladjustmentAllcuttingunitsmusthaveequalbedknifeto
reelandheight-of-cutadjustments.
Checkthebedknifetoreelcontactdaily.The
bedknifeshouldhavelightcontactacrossthe
entirereel.Nocontactwilldullthecutting
edges.Excessivecontactaccelerateswearof
bothedges.Qualityofcutisadverselyaffected
bybothconditions;refertoBedknifetoReel
AdjustmentintheCuttingUnitOperator’s
Manual.
