TheelectricalsysteminmachineswithaKubotaorYanmardieselengine
includeelectricalrelaysthathave5terminals.Atagnearthewireharnessrelay
connectorcanbeusedtoidentifyeachrelay.
Thestartrelayisusedtoprovidecurrenttotheenginestartersolenoid.On
machineswithaKubotadieselengine,thestartrelayisenergizedbytheToro
ElectronicController(TEC).ThestartrelayisenergizedbytheengineECUon
machineswithaYanmardieselengine.
TheEGRrelayisusedonmachineswithaYanmardieselenginetoprovide
currenttotheengineEGRvalvewhenenergizedbytheengineECU.
ThestartrelayandEGRrelayareattachedtoaframebracketunderthehood
nexttothehydraulicpumpdriveshaft(Figure258).
Note:AfaultcodemaybedisplayedontheInfoCenterdisplayifthestartrelay,
EGRrelayorcircuitwiringisdamaged.
TestingtheRelayswith5Terminals
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingunits,shutoffthe
engine,settheparkingbrake,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Openthehoodtogetaccesstotherelays.Removethehoodsaddlefrom
themachineforeasieraccesstorelay.
3.Ensurethatthemachineoperationdoesnotoccurunexpectedly,disconnect
thenegative(-)cablefromthebatteryandthendisconnectthepositive(+)
cablefromthebattery;refertoServicingtheBattery(page7–125).
4.Locatetherelaythatistobetested.
5.Disconnectthewireharnesselectricalconnectorfromtherelay.Removethe
relayfromthemountingbracketfortesting.
Note:Beforetakingthesmallresistancereadingswithadigitalmultimeter,
shortthemultimetertestleadstogether.Themeterdisplaysasmall
resistancevalue(usually0.5ohmsorless).Thisresistanceisbecauseofthe
internalresistanceofthemultimeterandtestleads.Subtractthisvaluefrom
themeasuredvalueofthecomponentthatyouaretesting.
