Note – Once connected, G (GPRS) or E (EDGE - a faster form of GPRS) or H (HSDPA) will automatically appear
in the notification bar depending on the network capabilities in that area; some service providers may only
provide GPRS.
Setting up the CDMA data connection
Trimble Ranger 3/TSC3 products are approved for use on the Verizon network in the USA.
To register the unit with Verizon:
1. Provide the handheld’s MEID (unique cell radio identifier) to your Verizon account contact. The
MEID is printed on the label in the battery compartment. The MEIDis the first 14 digits of the
number printed on the label.
Alternatively:

Tap / CellStart, and select Begin Setup
b. On the Select Provider screen, from the Service Provider dropdown menu, select Verizon.
From the Plan and Location dropdown menu, select either Verizon USA, or Verizon Global
(if you have a selected a Global Mode account and have been provided with a SIM card).
c. Tap OK.
d. Wait for configuration settings to be applied and then tap OK. The Activation screen
displays, showing the MEID number. Make a note of the number, and tap OKto exit the
screen.
2. When the unit has been registered on the Verizon network (this can take a couple of days,
check with your Verizon contact), activate and enable CDMA on the unit.
To activate CDMA operation on the unit:
The activation step requires that the unit is able to connect to the Verizon network during the
activation sequence. Check your location’s Verizon coverage using the Verizon Coverage Locator:

1. To activate CDMA, make sure the phone is turned on, and connected to the Verizon network in
an area of good coverage (the signal-strength indicator should show at least two bars).

Tap / CellStart, and select Begin Setup.
3. On the Select Provider screen, tap OK. (Your settings should be as configured at step 1b above).
4. On the The Activation screen, tap Activate. It may take several minutes for the activation
process to run.
If successful, the message ACTIVATION:Success displays. Tap OKto close the screen.
If the activation fails, the message ACTIVATION:Failure displays. This may be because your
device has not been registered on the Verizon network; check with your Verizon contact. Tap
OKto close the screen.
